RUSTY YEARS LP REVIEWED IN TERMINAL BOREDOM

Baby Tears “Rusty Years” LP

Mushed mouth scum covered rock outta Omaha, Nebraska. Crunchy as peanuts in a turd and just as tasty too. Hyperblown and somewhat textured in mulched metal overtones. A plodding noise(ier) rock variation of FNU Ronnies, mayhaps? A nasty thought, close cousin to Meat Mist? Maybe if the Meats brought in keyboards, chucked the MITB influence and trolled the Live Fast Die vibes a bit more. Bashed and bruised tunage I can get behind. Looks, feels and sounds like a Rotted Tooth Record. Better than another Frances Harold record or Mayyors clone. Moodier and willing to groove, unlike most of these types of acts. Pick one up. (Ex)Fag Cop sez so. There’s hardly any to go around. 200 pressed in screen printed jackets. (RSF)

THE READER TOP 20

"...Chances are, Baby Tears hates you and well, that's why we like them. The trio creates heavy, black-cast noise rock, taught by professors from the school of Big Black and Birthday Party. The band's Rusty Years LP is an angry, noisy and at times, angular blast of uncompromised fury. The four-track recordings careen through a sea of static as it presents a pre-industrial sounding mash of post-punk and garage noise. It's such a stark move for both Jones and vonStup that its rendered their past band histories (The Shanks, Ladyfinger) irrelevant as points of sonic reference..." READ MORE HERE

RAZORCAKE REVIEW

BABY TEARS: Rusty Years: LP Three songs into this, something sounded off. Suddenly I realized that I just may have been listening to this at the wrong speed. D’oh! At 45 RPM, this record was highly intriguing and came across like a mash-up of the Lost Sounds and Xbxrx. At 33 RPM, which I’m assuming is the intended speed, this sounds more like Francis Harold And The Holograms style noise-punk and, sometimes, like an even more unconventional Birthday Party. The lo-fi recording and the silk screened album cover convince me that this is indeed a DIY product and not just some hipster douche’s self wank fest. It’s an interesting listen, for sure. I just wish it was meant to be played at 45. –Juan Espinosa (Rainy Road, Doom Town)

RUSTY YEARS RELEASE SHOW THIS SUNDAY AND 1ST LP REVIEW

Hide your beers and lose your fears, it’s Baby Tears with Rusty Years! I thought their 7″ from a few months ago was cool, and this new album expands on that nicely, tapping a keg of dirty, maniacal punk rock and letting it flow. Reminds me a whole lot of TV Ghost, in the way that the bass and drums drive the music and the guitarist and vocalist just kinda cackle and scream over top. Maybe a touch of Mukilteo Fairies when they really get wound up, and as I’m pretty sure these guys were buds with Excelsior back in the day, so maybe a touch of their riff-rock splendor, too? I’ll be honest, I couldn’t figure out if this was a 45 or 33 for a while (neither sounded quite “right”), but I have confirmed it’s a 33, meaning the music is actually burly and grizzled instead of sounding like Crazy Spirit. If any songs in particular really blew my mind, I’d tell you to race out and pick up a copy, but as it’s really just a good sound, my recommendation stays at the “check them out when they come to your town” level. That’s my plan! Yellow Green Red

Last Saturday afternoon, we printed the LP covers for our full-length "Rusty Years"(test pressing arrived today). Jacobo's chips and salsa were grazed upon, cans of Mexican beer were guzzled, and 200+ record covers were screen-printed. Printing soundtrack standouts include the new Crazy Spirit album and Cranford Nix Jr. It was a pretty sweet afternoon, and only got sweeter as we moved into the night with dinner and XXX drinks at Mt. Fuji Inn. Here we are at work:
